This one came in the mail yesterday from Crystal Classics, and went right on the tree that is already done. (Thank God)!
With a richer red hue than is shown on the Amazon page, it has raised pine needles and cones in white which provides the perfect contrast. It’s look is decorative and “Christmasie. ” It also comes with a long white ribbon with the name Wedgwood written on it. It should impress those who are easily impressed, or impressed with Wedgwood but don’t recognize it. Naturally, I took the ribbon off because it is too long to use to hang from a Christmas branch, and the actual ornament is a little too heavy. Both would bring on the inevitable death slide from the branch. I replaced it with a very plebian hook (just to put it in its place), and so I could hang it with more confidence in its place.
It came in a standard Wedgwood box, which means that it has a plastic window, so you can see the ornament that is secured in a skin-tight-like case. It must actually be pushed out from the back. The sturdy box does the rest. The packing box it came in was filled with those puffy, white things to protect it, and it was so big at first, I thought they might have made a mistake and sent me two. Blast their eyes!
This is my third and last Wedgwood ornament, and this one is the best by far. It looks as good in person as it does in the web catalogue, and it doesn’t contain any sappy sentiment on it, which always turns me off. The others disappoint even though they too are wordless. The lights from your tree will do nothing to enhance the ornaments which are all painted in flat colors. It is a reminder that Wedgwood is better left for porcelain that will never be used.
It still makes up the eclectic flavor that I find so appealing in a Christmas tree that is full of small, white (non-twinkling) lights, shiny ornaments, red boughs, ceramic and wooden figures, with plenty of icicles and a noticeable absence of garland and tinsel, sports or political figures, and flags. After all, it’s Christmas!
Now if I only had an old Sears & Roebuck Christmas Catalogue. [Sigh]
If you come to see my tree, don’t bring the cat.
